    Interpretive

This experience as given me an in depth look at what it takes to educate today's children. I have been able to help students gain a better understanding of the different core subjects they need to know and in a way they truly enjoy. Because of all this I have gained a better understanding of my senior topic and have found an answer for my essential question. This is important to me because, it has been a great help in answering my essential question and in my future job occupation. (Opening my own career camp to help students starting from middle school going to high school take what they like and find careers where they can either integrate or use what they like to make a living in their future. )

My essential question is “What is the best way to use art as a teaching tool in middle school?” By working in a middle school setting I was able to see all the different factors that could change the effectiveness of art integrated activities giving me the ability to better answer my essential question.

1. So far I have been doing my mentorship with my mother and Susan Hodapp. who are both teachers at Los Palmas Middle School. But I will soon be starting a different mentorship at Lone Hill Middle school with a Mr. Jacobs.

3. I have done a total of around 11 hours helping my mom and Mrs. Hodapp. (not including summer mentorship.)

4. During the time I mentored I helped grade papers, organize their classroom, and ran simple errands like delivering papers, picking up things for the teacher and observing what an educator needs to do to run a successful classroom. I learned that they need to keep up with the classwork they assign like we have to keep up with our research, so we don't fall behind, but if a teacher does this they would have to worry about doing it all at once to get grades in. I also learned that they should be forever violent because many small and barley noticeable things can happen in a class and to create a safe and stable environment you need to look out for any problems so they can be resolved as soon as possible without causing to much problems for the student.

• All three days of my summer mentoring were spent helping a teacher at Las Palmas Middle school set up their classroom for the new school year. I did things like organizing cabinets, and putting together desk buckets, to be used by students for pencils pens and other need school supplies. I also sorted through papers, folders, drawers looking for unwanted worksheets and paper to make room for new ones. I also asked the teachers I saw, certain questions on how they like to teach their students and if they felt art was a great teaching tool.

• What kind of things or tools do you use to teach your students?
• What is your take on using art in the classroom to help teach a subject?
• How do you feel about after school programs like art and music getting cut back or completely pulled from schools?
• Do you know of any other teachers who use art to teach their students, and if so do you know how they feel about it?

   Interpretive

     The most important thing I gained from this experience is that art is a great way to help people and children learn curtain things and subjects. Like in science art can help a student learn about Photosynthesis having them draw a flower and label important parts and what makes them important so they can get an idea of what the processes looks like. Or in history it would help to not only write an essay on what happened during a great battle but to also draw a picture of what they think the battle may have looked like.

     This summer mentorship helped me pick a good topic by showing me how art, something I truly love and care about, can help others learn in a fun way .
